ike...

Saturday, September 13 2:50pm

We made it through the long night, waiting for Ike's wrath and listening to his howl. It wasn't our first hurricane and it surely won't be our last. The kids (it was their first hurricane) slept through the night (thanks to Tylenol). We "hunkered" down and all slept in Oliver's room. Scared the windows would break, we pushed Oliver's armoire in front of the window. Winds started to pick up at 6:30pm, the storm hit Houston around midnight and we lost power at 12:30am. It was the longest night for Michael and I. No sleep for us, only the sounds of Ike's howl, the rain smashing the windows, and the house moaning and creaking. We got our power back around 1:00pm, but my parents are still without power and running water. Things are different when your a Mom and all I wished for my kids to be kept safe and those I love to be kept safe. Luckily, I got my wish and we're thinking of all those people who live in Galveston. My heart goes out to them.
